Starting your fitness journey in 2025

We know how daunting it can be to start any kind of fitness journey, so here are our top tips to help you get started this year.

From setting clear goals to starting small and staying consistent, you’ll soon find a rhythm that works for you and discover a way of training you truly enjoy!

Set clear goals
Define what you want to achieve—whether it’s weight loss, strength gain, better endurance or improved mental health. Make sure your goals are specific to you and your lifestyle; they don’t need to align with what everyone else is aiming for if they don’t suit you.

Start small
Focus on small, manageable changes rather than overhauling your entire routine. Start with 2–3 workouts per week and gradually increase as you feel more confident.

Find your why
Understand your motivation for starting this journey. Whether it’s feeling stronger, setting a positive example or boosting energy levels, your “why” will keep you going on tough days.

Choose activities you enjoy
If you love what you’re doing, you’re more likely to stick with it. Experiment with different workouts—yoga, HIIT, strength training or group classes—until you find your favourite.

Fuel your body
Nutrition is just as important as exercise. Focus on whole foods, balanced meals, and staying hydrated.

Track your progress
Use a journal, app or fitness tracker to record workouts, meals, and how you’re feeling. Seeing your progress over time will keep you motivated.

Don’t go it alone
Join a gym, sign up for classes or find a workout buddy. A supportive community, like the one we have here at Sanctuary, can keep you accountable and make the journey more fun.

Focus on consistency, not perfection
Aim to be consistent rather than perfect. Missing a workout or having an off day is okay. What matters is getting back on track.

Celebrate wins, big and small
Reward yourself for milestones along the way—whether it’s completing your first month of workouts or hitting a personal best. Recognising your efforts keeps motivation high.
